Men's Tennis Faces UCF in Monday Matchup

WACO, Texas - Baylor men's tennis (10-3) will face its third opponent on the road with a Monday evening matchup against UCF at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

"It's a big match in terms of the depth that (UCF) imposes," head coach Matt Knoll said. "Their players are very good, and it's going to be a huge challenge for us to go on the road and play them. We're going to continue to improve our game and get one degree better."

With doubles beginning at 5 p.m. CT, the Bears hold a 1-0 all-time record against the Knights (4-3). The only previous meeting between the two programs was a 4-2 BU victory last season at the Hurd Tennis Center. Despite dropping the doubles point, Johannes Schretter, Jimmy Bendeck, Will Little and Juan Benitez captures singles victories for the win.

BU is currently 1-1 in true road contests this season, dropping a 4-3 decision at Ole Miss on Feb. 5 and topping Washington, 4-1, on Feb. 19.

Baylor is led by two ranked players on the singles side. Junior Johannes Schretter and sophomore Bjoern Petersen are ranked No. 38 and No. 74 in the country. Both players have a 5-4 dual-match singles record. The Bears have two ranked doubles tandems as Will Little and Johannes Schretter team together to be No. 5 while Bjoern Petersen and Jimmy Bendeck are No. 55.

UCF (4-3) recently dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 8 Michigan Friday afternoon. Despite starting the season 0-2, the Knights had a four-match winning streak that included victories over UC Davis, Auburn, North Florida and Stetson.

UCF has one ranked singles player in No. 80 Alan Rubio while Korey Lovett and Eero Vasa combine to be the 23rd-ranked doubles team in the country.

Last time out, BU improved to 9-0 at home with a 4-1 victory over No. 41 Memphis Friday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center. The Bears collected the doubles point and saw Roy Smith, Johannes Schretter and Constantin Frantzen earn victories in singles. Baylor is riding an 11-match home winning streak dating back to last season.
