Men's Tennis Heads To California For Pair of Matches

WACO, Texas - The 12th-ranked Baylor men's tennis team (8-3) will travel to Los Angeles to face a pair of top-10 opponents beginning with a 2 p.m. match against No. 5 USC at Marks Stadium on Sunday.

BU enters the road trip following a 6-1 loss at No. 10 Virginia on March 1. The Bears have four singles competitors ranked in the latest ITA poll with Julian Lenz, Patrick Pradella, Diego Galeano and Michel Dornbusch ranked No. 6, 13, 18 and 110 respectively.

Sunday's match will mark the second meeting between the Bears and Trojans after the two teams met at the ITA Indoor Championships in February. In that last meeting, the Trojans claimed a 4-2 win to extend their lead in the overall to 7-4.

The Trojans also have four singles players ranked including Ray Sarmiento who is tied with Lenz for sixth. Yannick Hanfmann, Jonny Wang and Roberto Quiroz are also ranked No. 10, 43 and 80.

Following Sunday's match, Baylor will face third-ranked UCLA on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Bruins enter the match with the Bears with a 10-1 overall record. UCLA has five competitors ranked in the latest poll, including No. 1 Clay Thompson, No. 5 Marcus Giron, No. 35 Mackenzie McDonald and No. 74 Gage Brymer.

Baylor currently holds a 7-5 advantage against the Bruins in the all-time series. The last meeting between the teams was during the 2013 season and saw the Bruins defeat Baylor in Waco by a score of 6-1.

Following the two matches in Los Angeles, the Bears will travel to Indian Wells, Calif., to compete in the inaugural Oracle Collegiate Tennis Challenge beginning on March 15.
