The No. 4 ranked Baylor men's tennis team begins Big 12 conference play this week as they face No. 75 Nebraska at the Nebraska Tennis Center, Friday, March 23 at 2 p.m. (CDT).
After defeating then-No. 2 Virginia and then-No. 41Georgia Tech last weekend, the Bears enter Friday's contest with a 13-2 record in non-conference action. This will also be Nebraska's first conference action of the season after posting a 6-6 overall record. Baylor leads the series against Nebraska 15-3, with 15 consecutive wins since 1997.
"We look forward to kicking off the conference schedule at Nebraska this week. There are many things we need to improve over the coming weeks and this is a wonderful opportunity to get started," said head coach Matt Knoll.
Leading the Bears with a 19-6 overall record is Michal Kokta, ranked at the No. 14 spot. Three other players received honors in the latest Fila/ITA Collegiate Rankings including No. 18 Lars Poerschke, No. 91 Dominik Mueller and No. 108 Matija Zgaga. In doubles, Zgaga and David Galic earned honors at the No. 43 spot while Lars Poerschke and Galic ranked No. 48.
The Bears have claimed six Big 12 Championship titles, with five consecutive titles since 2002. According to the latest Fila/ITA Collegiate Rankings, the Bears are ranked highest among Big 12 teams.
The Bears return home Monday, March 26 when they host a double-header against St. Edwards at 3 p.m. and Texas-Arlington at 7 p.m.
