WACO, TEXAS - The seventh-ranked Baylor men's tennis team (16-4) will host the 25th-ranked South Florida (13-4) Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center in its last match before beginning conference play Saturday.
"We are closing out our non-conference schedule with a great team," head coach Matt Knoll said. "They have had a lot of success and a really strong season. They have a bunch of talented young players and they are going to be excited to play. They are always well prepared and well coached and it is a great chance for us to end the non-conference season on a positive note."
The Bears enter the midweek match coming off a successful weekend that included two wins to stretch their win streak to eight matches. The current Baylor win streak includes five wins against teams currently ranked 40 or higher, and three wins against teams currently ranked in the top 20.
South Florida enters the match led by No. 53 Roberto Cid. The Bulls recorded a 7-0 sweep of UCF in their last outing and are currently on a four-match win streak.
Baylor currently leads the Bulls 2-0 in the all-time series record with their last meeting resulting in a 4-3 Baylor victory in 2005.
"The thing that is clear is that we have grown in our confidence," Knoll said. "We have grown in our preparation and comfort level and how we prepare for matches. We are practicing with more consistency and I think we are developing a pretty good identity. We are working together to improve and we believe that if we keep doing what we are doing that the future is bright for us and that we will be a pretty good team by the end of the season."
Live scoring, a live blog and live video stream of the match will be available on BaylorBears.com.
Following Wednesday's match, the Bears will be back in action Saturday as they host No. 28 Texas Tech to open conference play.
