Baylor men's tennis, ranked at the No. 4 spot for the third consecutive week, will host a doubleheader Tuesday, April 10 at the Baylor Tennis Center taking on St. Edwards at 3:00 p.m. and Texas-Arlington at 7 p.m. The Bears have won nine consecutive matches and are undefeated on the home court.
After defeating Texas A&M in the Bears' second conference match of the season, Baylor enters Tuesday's matches 2-0 in the Big 12, 16-2 overall. St. Edwards is currently 6-7 on the season while Texas-Arlington posts a 9-7 overall record. Baylor owns an 11-1 series mark against St. Edwards and is tied 5-5 in the series against Texas-Arlington.
"The matches Tuesday give the guys an opportunity to improve and to keep working on strengths and weaknesses," said head coach Matt Knoll. "We'll experiment with some doubles combinations and gain some experience."
The Bears have four players ranked in the latest FILA/ITA Collegiate Rankings including Lars Poerschke, tied at the No. 13 spot, No. 16 Michal Kokta, No. 93 Dominik Mueller and No. 124 Matija Zgaga. In doubles, Zgaga and David Galic earned honors at the No. 18 spot, boasting a 7-1 overall record.
Zgaga has moved up again in Baylor's records ladder with his performance against Pepperdine and Texas A&M. In singles career wins, Zgaga is tied with teammate Michal Kokta at the No. 7 spot posting 93 wins. He also improved to tie for third in doubles career wins with 94 and jumped up to fifth in dual match singles career wins with 65 victories.
The Bears are back in action Thursday, April 12 when they travel to Athens, Georgia to face the University of Georgia at 5 p.m. (central time).
