IRVING, Texas - Baylor men's tennis senior Patrick Pradella was named the Big 12 Player of the Week by conference officials on Tuesday.
Pradella tallied a 3-0 record in singles play last week, while taking down three ranked opponents. The senior bested No. 83 Facundo Lugones of TCU on Tuesday to start the week and went on to defeat No. 6 Axel Alvarez-Llamas (OU) and No. 86 Jakob Sude (OSU) over the weekend.
In doubles play, Pradella teamed with Mate Zsiga to produce a 2-1 record with wins over TCU's 10th-ranked duo of Nick Chappell and Will Stein and Oklahoma State's 21st-ranked pairing of Arjun Kadhe and Sude.
The Bielefeld, Germany, product, is currently ranked No. 12 in singles and No. 42 with Zsiga in doubles. This season, he has racked up a 19-8 singles record overall and a 10-4 mark in dual-match play. Pradella has won his last seven decisions. In doubles play, he is 10-8 with four different partners.
With Pradella's help, the sixth-ranked Bears are 20-5 on the season, having won 12 of their last 13 matches. Baylor is 3-1 in Big 12 action and 14-5 vs. ranked opponents.
Pradella also won the award on April 23, 2013.
It is Baylor's 36th Big 12 weekly honor since 2000. Pradella is one of 15 different Bears to be recognized in that stretch. He is one of only nine BU players to win the award at least twice in his career.
Pradella's honor gives BU winners in back-to-back weeks for the fifth time in four years. Junior Michel Dornbusch won the award last week. Baylor has now won at least two Player of the Week honors in 10 of the last 13 years and for four straight years.
Baylor will be in action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. as the Bears host No. 7 Texas at the Hurd Tennis Center with a share of the Big 12 title on the line.
