IRVING, Texas - For the third time in his career, Baylor men's tennis sophomore Mate Zsiga has been named the Big 12 Conference Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Zsiga, currently ranked No. 66 in the latest ITA singles listings, helped the Bears to wins over No. 12 Oklahoma, 6-1, on Friday and then Oklahoma State, 7-0, on Sunday. He went 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 doubles action in those two matches as Baylor improved to 17-4 overall and 3-0 in Big 12 play.

Playing in the No. 2 spot in the singles lineup, Zsiga upset the 38th-ranked Guillermo Alcorta to give the Bears its last point in the victory OU. He then earned Baylor's third point vs. OSU as he topped Chris Haworth, 6-1, 6-1. On the season, Zsiga is 24-7 and 15-3 in dual-match play. He has won seven straight matches, including a 3-0 start in Big 12 play.

In doubles, Zsiga and partner Diego Galeano currently are ranked No. 61. Last week, the tandem clinched the doubles point for BU in the win over Oklahoma with a 9-8(3) victory against the 27th-ranked Dane Webb and Costin Paval. Against the Cowboys, the pairing downed Rifat Biktyakov and Matt Campbell, 8-4. The Baylor duo is 5-2 overall and 5-0 in dual-match play with all of those contests coming in the No. 1 position.

The Szeged, Hungary, native, was previously honored in back-to-back weeks during his freshman campaign in 2012.

It is Baylor's 33rd Big 12 weekly honor since 2000. Zsiga is one of 13 different Bears to be recognized in that stretch and now one of only five that has been honored three or more times. He joins Benjamin Becker (5), Benedikt Dorsch (5), Zoltan Papp (5) and Lars Poerschke (4) in that category.

The 15th-ranked Bears will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Austin, Texas, to face the 19th-ranked Texas Longhorns at 6 p.m. on Longhorn Network.
