WACO, Texas - Baylor men's tennis closes out its regular season and Big 12 Conference slate on Wednesday with a road match at Texas A&M. The match begins at 6 p.m. at the Aggies' George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
Both squads have had some rough going lately as Texas A&M has lost three straight 4-3 matches while Baylor's last three contests have been 4-3 results. However, Baylor rebounded to defeat Oklahoma State 4-3 on Saturday. Over the last three matches, the 12-13 Aggies have lost to No. 23 Texas Tech, No. 43 Notre Dame and No. 17 Texas, while Baylor, 14-10 on the season, lost 4-3 to both No. 26 Tulsa and No. 13 Oklahoma before defeating Oklahoma State, 4-3. Baylor brings a 2-2 league mark to the contest while the Aggies are 1-3 in Big 12 play.
Baylor is led on the season by reigning two-time Big 12 Player of the Week, 16th-ranked freshman Mate Zsiga's 32-5 season mark; he is 18-2 in dual match play and 13-5 vs. ranked foes. Junior Roberto Maytin, BU's other ranked singles player at No. 98, owns the team's second-best singles record at 21-13. Zsiga and fellow freshman Diego Galeano are ranked No. 68 in doubles with a 5-2 record, including a 3-1 Big 12 Conference mark. Zsiga and Maytin are ranked No. 87 with an 11-5 record and Maytin and senior Kike Grangeiro are rated No. 59.
The Aggies have one ranked singles player and two rated doubles tandems. Senior Alexis Klegou checks in at No. 33 for the Aggies. Sophomore Junior Ore and freshman Jackson Withrow combine to form the nation's 46th-ranked doubles duo at 14-11 overall, while Colin Hoover and John Lewis are ranked No. 81.
After taking on the Aggies on Wednesday, Baylor will return to College Station to compete in the Big 12 Championships, April 27-29.
