INDIANAPOLIS- The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee has selected the 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams that will compete in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships. Baylor's Denes Lukacs and Jordan Rux have both been selected for the singles bracket.
Rux will also be participating in the doubles championships with partner David Galic. The duo is currently ranked No. 18 team in the country and sporting an 11-5 record.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 20-25 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 14- 19).
Lukacs, ranked No. 4, is seeded in the 1-8 range. Both Lukacs and the 45th-ranked Rux were part of the 48 at-large bids to the tournament.
Along with the prestige of receiving a top seeding in the tournament, players who are seeded automatically obtain All-America status. This marks Lukacs' third appearance at the NCAA Tournament and his second time to earn All-American in singles.
Lukacs leads the Bears this season with 19-5 dual match-record. Rux is 16-8 on the season and is 8-2 over his last 10 matches. Rux was named the Big 12 Championships' most outstanding player after leading the Bears to the tournament title over Texas on Sunday, April 25.
