WACO, Texas - For the second straight year Baylor men's and women's tennis teams have been selected to host NCAA Tennis Championship first and second rounds. Competition at the Baylor Tennis Center will be May 11-13.
Baylor's men's squad, the tournament's No. 3 seed, will be making in its 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The Bears, currently 24-3 on the season and ranked No. 4 nationally, has been to three straight NCAA Final Fours, including a national title in 2004 and runner-up finish in 2005.
Men's competition will begin on Friday, May 11. Head coach Matt Knoll's Bears will take on Oral Roberts in first round action at 6 p.m. while Texas A&M and Rice will also meet in the first round in Waco, that match will begin at 3 p.m. Winners of Friday matches will meet at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Oral Roberts received an automatic selection by winning the Mid-Continent Conference. The Chris Milliron coached Oral Roberts squad finished regular season play with a record of 10-7.
Texas A&M is currently ranked No. 35 and comes into the tournament with a 14-11 record. Rice, ranked No. 30, is 15-11 on the season after losing to the University of Tulsa in the Conference USA tournament.
"We are thrilled to be hosting NCAA first and second round matches. It is a great opportunity for our fans to see some outstanding tennis matches. I am glad to get a No. 3 seed. Georgia seems to be the big dog this season and we wanted to stay away from them for as long as we could," said Knoll.
On the women's side, Baylor has now been selected to the NCAA Tournament 10 times. This will be their third straight selection and fourth appearance in head coach Joey Scrivano's five years at the program's helm. Baylor has made it to the round of 16 the past two seasons and three times in program history.
The Bears received the tournament's No. 13 seed and will host Oral Roberts, Texas A&M and TCU. Like the men's team, Baylor will take on Oral Roberts in first-round action while the Texas A&M and TCU match up. Oral Roberts, winners of the Mid-Continent Conference, come to Waco with a 12-8 record. Texas A&M, ranked No. 26 and owning a 20-6 record will tangle with 38th-ranked TCU. The Horned Frogs enter NCAA competition with a 17-10 record.
"Anytime you get to play at home, it's an advantage. The players get to sleep in their own beds, and we have our fans right here. We will have some really good competition here in Waco and we certainly hope that our fans will come out and cheer us on," said Joey Scrivano.
Women's first round matches will begin on Saturday, May 12 with the finals slated for Sunday, May 13. Baylor and Oral Roberts will hit the court at 11 a.m. on Saturday while Texas A&M and TCU will face off at 2 p.m.

The winner of each site will advance to the NCAA Tennis Championships at Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia. Competition in Athens is May 17-22. Men's round of 16 competition begins on May 17 while the women begin on May 18.
