Diego Galeano

May 6, 2014

IRVING, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team had three singles players and one doubles duo garner a spot on the All-Big 12 team, the conference announced on Tuesday. In singles, Diego Galeano, Julian Lenz and Patrick Pradella were all recognized, while in doubles Pradella and partner Mate Zsiga tallied the honor.

As a junior, Galeano has posted a 26-10 record and a 14-6 mark in dual-match action to earn his first all-league honor. He went 4-1 in Big 12 play and owns a 13-3 mark at the No. 3 spot in the lineup this season. The Asuncion, Paraguay, native, is currently ranked No. 31 in the country.

Last season's freshman of the year, Lenz, produced his second straight All-Big 12 singles accolade with the most singles wins on the team with a 33-6 record. The sophomore from Giessen, Germany, was ranked No. 3 in the latest ITA listings. Lenz has a 22-3 dual-match record and was 4-1 in Big 12 play.

Pradella, a senior from Bielefeld, Germany, is ranked No. 14 in the ITA rankings after posting a 20-9 overall record and an 11-5 dual-match mark, while playing exclusively in the top two spots of the lineup. He was last season's newcomer of the year in the Big 12 and nabbed his second consecutive all-conference singles honor in 2014. Pradella recorded wins against 12 ranked opponents, including sixth-ranked Axel Alvarez Llamas to clinch the Big 12 Championships crown for BU.

In doubles, Pradella and Zsiga were ranked No. 21 in the latest ITA listings. The duo is 10-7 on the year, but has won its last three decisions. In that stretch, Pradella and Zsiga have beaten teams ranked No. 29, No. 21 and No. 12. The tandem played only at the top of BU's lineup this season.

The All-Big 12 tennis teams and awards are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. A total of 12 singles players and six tandems are honored.

Baylor has now had at least two singles players make the All-Big 12 team every year since 2002 and has landed multiple players on the list in 16 of the 18 years of the conference's existence.

In head coach Matt Knoll's 18 seasons, Baylor has a total of 68 all-league honors, including 45 in singles and 23 more in doubles.

The sixth-ranked Bears will be back in action Saturday as they host the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Championships. Baylor will face Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to take on the winner of the Stanford-Tulsa match. The second round contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.

Following the team portion of the NCAA Championship, Galeano, Lenz and Pradella will take part in the NCAA Singles Championship, while Pradella and Zsiga will play in the doubles draw.
