Bendeck Earns NCAA Elite 90 Honor

ATHENS, Ga. – Baylor men’s tennis sophomore Jimmy Bendeck was named the recipient of the Elite 90 Award for the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship. Bendeck became the seventh Baylor student-athlete to win the award since its inception in 2009.

The award, which was founded by the NCAA, honors the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.

Bendeck holds a 3.96 cumulative grade point average while majoring in finance and entrepreneurship. He was presented the award during the Tennis Championships banquet on Wednesday night in Athens, Ga. On the court, Bendeck holds a 24-12 singles record and a 13-7 mark in dual-match play.

Bendeck joins Jessica Ubanyionwu (women’s indoor track & field, 2009), Lindsay Palmer (women’s basketball, 2010 and 2012), Diamond Richardson (women’s outdoor track & field, 2010), Taylor Ormond (women’s tennis, 2011), Sarah Crockett (softball, 2014) and Laura Lonardi (women’s golf, 2016) as BU athletes to be recognized with the honor.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team and a designated member of the squad size at the championship.

Bendeck is slated to be in the lineup for the Bears as they face No. 10 Texas Thursday at 8 a.m. CT in the NCAA Championships Round of 16.
