WACO, Texas - Three Baylor men's tennis players, Diego Galeano, Julian Lenz and Patrick Pradella will open play in the NCAA Singles Championship on Wednesday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Meanwhile, Pradella and partner Mate Zsiga will start their run in the NCAA Doubles Championships on Thursday.
Galeano will take on Mikelis Libietis of Tennessee at 8 a.m. to kick off Baylor's run in the 64-man singles bracket. As a junior, Galeano has amassed a 28-12 record and a 16-8 mark in dual-match action. The Asuncion, Paraguay, native, is currently ranked No. 31 in the country. Galeano's opponent, Libietis, is ranked No. 34 and produced a 23-13 record this season.
Lenz, who was named the ITA National Player to Watch on Tuesday, will battle Andrew Adams of South Carolina at 8 a.m. Lenz had a strong year, finishing with the most singles wins on the team with a 35-7 record. The sophomore from Giessen, Germany, will be the three-seed in the NCAA event. Len's foe, Adams, tallied a 31-9 dual-match record and is currently ranked No. 54.
Pradella, a senior from Bielefeld, Germany, will close out the day for BU with a 2:30 p.m. match vs. Greg Andrew s of Notre Dame. Pradella is ranked No. 14 in the ITA rankings after posting a 21-9 overall record and a 12-5 dual-match mark, while playing exclusively in the top two spots of the lineup.. He is seeded No.9-16 in this NCAA event. Pradella's opponent, Andrews, was 27-16 overall and 17-12 in dual-match action for the Irish. He is ranked No. 24.
Pradella and Lenz were both selected to the NCAA Singles Championship field last season with Pradella not participating due to back soreness and Lenz dropping his first round match.
In doubles action, Pradella and Zsiga will face Ian Dempster and Robbie Mudge of North Carolina State on Thursday. Pradella and Zsiga were ranked No. 21 in the latest ITA listings. The duo was 10-8 on the year, but the tandem played only at the top of BU's lineup this season. Dempster and Mudge were 21-4 on the season and are currently ranked No. 29.
