WACO, Texas - Baylor men's tennis junior-to-be Jimmy Bendeck was perfect on the first day of Davis Cup action for Honduras Monday in Montevideo, Uruguary.
In his first career Davis Cup action at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club, Bendeck picked up a singles win over Jody Maginley (Antigua & Barbuda), 6-1, 6-1. He then partnered with Keny Turcios for a 6-1, 6-2 victory in doubles action against Maginley and Carlton Bedminster. Bendeck’s triumphs helped Honduras blow past Antigua & Barbuda, 3-0.
Teams are competing in two pools to see which two nations will be promoted to Americas Zone Group II next year.
The winner of each pool will play-off against the runner-up in the other pool to determine the sides gaining promotion this year.
The Honduras team will now play three matches over the next three days, starting with Bermuda on Wednesday, then Jamaica on Thursday and Puerto Rico on Friday.
Bendeck recently finished his sophomore campaign at Baylor with a 24-12 record overall and a 13-7 mark in dual-match play. He was ranked No. 120 in the final Oracle/ITA rankings.
