Men's tennis' Maros Horny recently represented his home country, Slovakia, in the recently completed World University Games Tennis Tournament in Belgrade, Serbia.
The native of Zlate Moravce, Slovakia, competed in singles, doubles and mixed doubles in the tournament.
The talented sophomore compiled a 2-1 record in singles after receiving a bye in the first round. In second-round action he downed Adolfo Solares of Mexico, 6-2, 6-3, and went on to defeat Japan's Yuya Kibi in the third round, 6-3, 6-1. Horny saw his singles action come to a halt when he lost to the tournament's No. 3 seed, Evgeny Donskoy of Russia, 6-4, 6-2.
Horny teamed with fellow countrywoman Katarina Kachlikova in mixed doubles. The tandem won their first-round match by defeating Croatia's Ivana Abramovic and Ivan Cerovic, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(10-7). However, Sho Aida and Miki Miyamura of Japan posted a victory over the Solvakian duo in the second round, 6-4, 6-1.
Horny and his doubles partner, Karol Galik lost in first-round action to Solvenia's Matjaz Jurman and Mitja Zajsek, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0(5).
