SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Baylor men's tennis has five players ranked in singles and one doubles team listed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason rankings released on Friday.
Senior Patrick Pradella leads the contingent of Bears in the singles rankings at No. 16, while sophomore Julian Lenz is ranked at No. 38. Juniors Marko Krickovic, Mate Zsiga and Tony Lupieri are 48th, 60th and 79th, respectively.
Pradella produced a 20-6 record in 2013, including a 12-4 mark at the top of the lineup. He was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and finished the season ranked No. 30.
Lenz, who was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, racked up a 27-10 record overall and a 16-5 mark in dual-match play in the top three spots of the BU lineup. He was ranked No. 59 to end the 2012-13 season.
Last season, Krickovic was 22-11 overall, 12-6 in dual-match play and ranked No. 72 in the final ITA listings.
Ranked No. 87 to end the year, Zsiga was 25-10 overall and 16-6 in dual-match play.
Lupieri tallied a 20-6 record on the year in 2012-13 and an 18-4 mark in dual-match play, going 9-2 in the No. 4 position. He was listed at No. 114 in the ITA final rankings last season.
In doubles, Zsiga teams with junior Diego Galeano to be listed at No. 22. Last season, the BU duo was 9-5 on the year and 9-3 at the No. 1 spot in dual-match play.
Along with the rankings, the ITA also released the entries for the ITA All-American Championships, which will open with prequalifying matches starting on Sept. 28, while the main draw is set to begin on Oct. 3. The event will be held at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center for a seventh consecutive season.
Pradella and Lenz will both begin in the main draw of the event, while Krickovic, Zsiga, Lupieri and Galeano will all have to win their way to the singles main draw in qualifying action. Newcomer Vincent Schneider will start his All-American run in the pre-qualifying round. On the doubles side, Zsiga and Galeano, along with Lenz and Lupieri will open in the qualifying draw.
Baylor will begin its fall season by hosting the Baylor-HEB Invitational at the Hurd Tennis Center, Sept. 20-22.
