WACO, Texas - Baylor's men's tennis team landed four student-athletes on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) preseason poll the organization announced recently. The rankings include the nation's top 125 singles players and 50 doubles teams.
Junior Jordan Rux (Kerrville, Texas) leads the Baylor contingent with a No. 27 ranking. Rux completed his sophomore season with a 25-13 singles record and a No. 46 final ranking. The sophomore was 16-9 in dual match competition. He played at No. 2 for the Bears in 24 of the 25 dual matches and was selected to play in the NCAA Championships' singles bracket.
Two other Bears are also ranked among the nation's top 125 singles players. Senior Attila Bucko (Wellington, Fla.) is No. 85 and sophomore Julian Bley (Veitshoechheim, Germany) is the 113th-ranked player in the poll. Bucko finished his junior year with a 22-13 record and was ranked as high as No. 40 on Jan. 6, 2009. Bley wrapped up his freshman campaign with a 21-13 record and reached a ranking of No. 121 on Feb. 29, 2009.
Baylor landed one doubles tandem on the rankings list as Rux and sophomore Maros Horny (Zlate Moravce, Slovakia) are listed at No. 25. The pairing did not play any matches together last season.
