WACO, Texas - Six Baylor men's tennis players have been selected to play singles in the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The event kicks off the 2007-08 collegiate tennis season and will be sponsored by Polo Ralph Lauren for the third straight year.
The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships include five days of qualifying events that precede the October 4-7 main draw. A 128-player prequalifying tournament takes place Sept. 29-30. This feeds into 128-player and 64-doubles team qualifying tournaments Oct.1-3, which then feeds into the 64-player, 32-doubles team main draws.
Bears participating in the prequalifying portion of the tournament, Sept. 29-30, include junior David Galic and sophomore Attila Bucko. Both players received first round byes. In the second round on Saturday, Bucko will play Miami's Vivek Subramanian at 9:00 a.m., while Galic takes on Derek Difazio of Clemson at 2:00 p.m. Winners of both matches will play at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Junior Matt Brown, sophomores Denes Lukacs and Dominik Mueller and freshman Jordan Rux were selected for the qualifying tournament which begins on Monday, Oct. 1. Draws for this tournament will be posted when available.
The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2007-08 collegiate tennis season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
This year's event is being hosted by the University of Tulsa for the third straight time, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center - site of the 2004 and 2008 NCAA Championships.
