WACO, Texas - Sophomore Denes Lukacs completed an outstanding fall season and earned the top spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Central Regional rankings that were published on Wednesday. In addition, David Galic, Jordan Rux, Matt Brown and Dominik Mueller were ranked among the region's top 25 for their fall performances and four doubles tandems also made the list.
The ITA will release its national team and individual rankings Jan. 8.
During fall competition, Lukacs, a native of Eger, Hungary, posted an 18-4 record, including n 11-4 mark over ranked opponents. Ranked No. 78 in preseason rankings, Lukacs posted wins over eight top-50 players including straight-sets victories over No. 2 Steven Moneke (Ohio State), No. 7 Erling Tveit (Mississippi) and No. 9 Ryan Rowe (Illinois). In addition Lukacs claimed the championship of the prestigious Fluitt Invitational and the South Central Regional Tournament.
Junior David Galic registered some impressive victories en route to a No. 12 rank. Freshman Jordan Rux checked in at No. 17, while junior Matt Brown and sophomore Dominik Mueller were No. 20 and 21, respectively.
Brown and Mueller attained the highest regional doubles listing at No. 8. Galic and Lukacs sit at No. 11 while Mueller and sophomore Attila Bucko are No. 12 and Brown and Rux are No. 14.
The Bears are idle until Jan. 18 when they compete in the Sherwood Classic in Los Angeles. The squad's first dual match competition will be on Saturday, Jan 26 as they host a rare triple-header, taking on Prairie View A&M at 9 a.m., Southeast Louisiana at 1 p.m., and UT-Arlington at 7 p.m.
