A&T Loses Close Meet to Quinnipiac

THE RUNDOWN
HAMDEN, Conn. –Acrobatics & Tumbling (0-2) fell in their second meet of the season to the Quinnipiac Bobcats (2-0) 279.39 to 278.83 at TD Banks Sports Center in Hamden, Conn., Sunday morning.

Quinnipiac started off the meet by taking the Compulsory event 37.45 to Baylor’s 36.70. The Bears then came back strong in the Acro, sweeping each of the three heats, scoring 26.90 to the Bobcats’ 24.87. Baylor then struggled in the Pyramid event, with Quinnipiac scoring 29.45 to Baylor’s 27.90. The Bobcats led 91.77 – 91.50 going into halftime.

After the half, both teams remained close in the Toss with Quinnipiac outscoring Baylor 28.70 to 28.55. In Tumbling the Bears proved strong as freshman Kiara Nowlin scored a 9.98 in the Six Element, helping Baylor take Tumbling 57.50 to 57.00. In the final event of the meet, the Team Routine, the Bobcats just edged the Bears 101.92 to 101.28 to claim the victory by a slim .56 margin, 279.39 to 278.83. HIGHLIGHTS
• The Bears were able to sweep the Acro event, taking each of the three heats 9.15-8.75, 9.15-8.85 and 8.60-7.27.
• In the Toss event, the synch heat of Lori Williamson, Lindsey Lau, Deonka Ceaser, Brandi Hanford and Lynn Herbst scored a 9.7.
• Senior Hailey Cowan impressed in the Aerial Pass in the Tumbling event with a score of 9.83.

STAT OF THE DAY
Baylor’s Kiara Nowlin was near perfection in the Six Element heat of the Tumbling Event with a score of 9.98.

“I felt the team gave a great effort today. We made small mistakes throughout the meet which ultimately cost us the win,” said head coach LaPrise Harris-Williams. “As the season progresses and all teams begin to polish skills, it will become increasingly important for us to focus on the detail and minimize our mistakes. I feel we did a better job at recovering from our mistakes this meet. Overall, we have to hit when it counts.”

WHAT'S NEXT
The Lady Bears will travel next to Azusa, Calif., to compete in their only tri-meet of the season against host school Azusa Pacific and Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday, March 18, at 8:30 p.m. (CT).
