WACO, Texas – Baylor Acrobatics & Tumbling won its second home meet of the 2013 season against Quinnipiac Sunday night at the Ferrell Center. The Bears (2-2) won four of six events to beat the Bobcats (1-1) 262.48-258.65.
“The team stayed extremely focused throughout the entire meet,” head coach LaPrise Harris-Williams said. “Baylor just took it one event at a time. Their focus is what kept the team together.”
Baylor started the meet strong, sweeping the first three events. The Bears outscored the Bobcats 37.30-37.10 in Compulsories, and widened the lead when they posted a 27.40 to Quinnipiac’s 25.15 in the Acro event. The Bears then took the Pyramid event, beating the Bobcats 28.00-26.95. Baylor entered halftime leading 92.70-89.20.
The Bobcats rallied after halftime, scoring a 26.10 to Baylor’s 25.85 in the Toss event. The Bears answered, however, by putting 54.78 points on the board during the Tumbling event. Baylor held a 6-point lead heading into the final event – the Team Routine.
Quinnipiac outscored Baylor 91.35-89.15 in the Team Routine, but failed to close the gap. The Bears won their second home meet of the season 262.48-258.65.
Baylor competes again when it hosts Oregon (2-0) at the Ferrell Center on Saturday, April 6. The Bears were defeated by the Ducks earlier in March.
“Oregon is a tough competitor,” Harris-Williams said. “All we can do is stay focused, continue to work our techniques and make sure we are physically and mentally prepared.”
