WACO, Texas - Baylor Acrobatics and Tumbling will compete in the 2013 National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA) National Championship in Hamden, Conn., at 11:00 a.m. CT Friday. The Bears (2-4) will face Azusa Pacific (2-4), Fairmont State (1-5), Oregon (6-0) and Quinnipiac (4-2).

"The team is competition minded," second-year head coach LaPrise Harris-Williams said. "I'm feeling confident that they will do their best."

Baylor has outscored Azusa Pacific and Quinnipiac, but lost two meets to Oregon, once to Fairmont State and once in another meet against Azusa Pacific. Although the season has been challenging, the Bears have not lost their drive to succeed.

"The team has stepped up tremendously since the last meet," Harris-Williams said. "Sophomore Keegan Johnson has inspired many of the athletes to work harder by pushing herself to the limit to become one of the top overall athletes, excelling in tumbling. I feel the team captains are helping to motivate the team to work towards the next level in A&T. "

The National Championship is a five-team bracket, single elimination tournament. The first round begins Friday, when the bottom two seeds face each other. The first-round winner will then compete against the top seed in Friday's second round. The No. 2 and 3 seeds will also face each other in Friday's second round. Second-round winners will compete Saturday in the Championship final.

Team seeds are determined by averaging every team's top two home and top two away scores. Oregon received the No. 1 seed, while the No. 2 seed was claimed by Quinnipiac. Both teams are given a first-round bye.

Baylor secured the No. 4 seed and takes on No. 5 seed Fairmont State Friday at 10 a.m. CT in the first round. Azusa Pacific received the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 seed Quinnipiac in Friday's second round at 3:00 p.m. CT.

If Baylor defeats Fairmont State in the quarterfinals, it will advance to face No. 1 Oregon in the second round Friday at 6:00 p.m. CT. If the Bears win the first two rounds, they would take on Quinnipiac or Azusa Pacific in Saturday's final at 11:00 a.m. CT. Friday's meet will be streamed live at http://necfrontrow.com/webcast.php/QU-868/.

If the Bears can finish the season with a close to perfect meet, they have enough drive and energy to secure a national championship title. All NCATA events are sanctioned through USA Gymnastics.
