BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On getting it to Sune Abuke...
"Well, yes it happened, but it's been a focus. We have been riding post players, and of course we saw the zone tonight. We haven't seen that much zone. They were pretty much following Odyssey and following with the forwards on zone, so it allowed the post players to get touches, and I thought that Niya Johnson did a really good job. [She only had] one turnover; I think she had seven assists and found both Sune [Abuke] and Nina [Davis]. And, the good thing is Sune is finishing shots now. She's not rushing it. She's finishing it and she's getting fouled."
On having good passes...
"Well, TCU traps you in the short corner at the "T," so Sune early in the game, we knew that, and they handled it very well. So, we quit throwing it there on the initial pass, and then had ball reversal, and we would screen the zones some. Niya [Johnson] would get in there before they could trap her in ball reversal, so they are good passers, and the more they play together the better they will be to each other. I think they do a really good job of finding guards. I think Nina found Odyssey [Sims] a lot, but they pass it very well. "
Baylor Senior Guard Odyssey Sims
On playing against zone...
"I prefer to play man more, but zone is fine. It's an opportunity for [the bigs] to score more like you saw tonight. It gives them more freedom to actually move and flash. So, I think it's more for the post and some for the guards.
Getting off to a good start...
"Starting Big 12 play we were just really focused on getting off to a good start against our opponents. So far we have been doing a good job of staying focused, of paying attention to the board and getting after it. Trying to get the win and playing together."
Baylor Junior Center Sune Agbuke
On rising to the challenge of Monday vs. No. 1 UConn...
"Yea, I think we all are. Who doesn't want to play the No. 1 team in the country? Especially after being the No. 1 team in the country in the past. I think we're excited, we just want to go out there and play, and I don't think anybody is going to be afraid. "
TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie
On this year's Baylor team:
"Odyssey [Sims] is playing so well. Here's a player that's pushing for a lot of special things in her senior year. I see a team with a lot of offensive firepower even though they lost so much. They've moved pieces around, some shots around and they're very talented."
On Odyssey's play this year:
"Odyssey played with my oldest daughter in AAU when she was 12. She came to my shooting camp, I get no credit for that. She's a great player. You could see it at that young age, the instincts that are hard to coach. The maturity that she's shown over the years has really impressed me.... She was a special player then and you could see a very special player in the making."
