No. 11/9 Nebraska 65, No. 9/9 Baylor 56
Ferrell Center - Waco, Texas
January 17, 2010 - Att. 7,883

Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the game...

"We fought hard. We are a wild bunch on offense. It's like a track meet out there. We have no offensive execution. When you don't have Melissa Jones out there making perimeter shots for you and you are 0-for-10 from the three-point line, we are not a three-point shooting team but we are going to make two or three a game with her in the lineup. When you are playing as many young ones as we are, it takes a while for your offensive execution to happen."

On the post play and the freshman...
"Until we as coaches continue to drill them and drill them every day, I want Griner to have as many touches as she can but (we) are going to have to hit perimeter shots. We've got kids that can hit them but we are just herky-jerky wild right now and that is to be expected. What you have to have is upperclassmen lead you and let those young ones follow their lead."

On the week off and preparing for Missouri...
"We will just keep working on our offensive execution. I will make sure that I am playing the right people and make sure that I have the right combinations (of players) in the game and to just get them better. We have some extra days to just focus on us and then do a scouting report on Missouri and just go right back at it."

Freshman Post Brittney Griner
On the battle of the boards...

"It was a battle this game with everything. (Nebraska) did a good job rebounding and I guess it is because of experience. That is something that we need more of." On the energy of the team following the technical foul...
"We were fired up. We just wanted to get back and get the lead and try to extend it. We were just trying stay focused."

Nebraska Head Coach Connie Yori
On the game...

"We went into this game thinking that rebounding was going to be the number one key to this game, and we did a great job rebounding. Obviously (Brittney) Griner was our focus and she still had a great game. At times I thought we did a great job of keeping the ball out of her hands. When she caught (the ball) she did a great job of being aggressive and taking it to the basket. They are a different team without (Melissa) Jones on the floor and they are not quite the same three-point shooting team without her so we wanted to take advantage of that."

On the offensive execution...
"We got shots. They weren't always exactly what we wanted within the course of our offense but we are a team that has been in this situation a lot. We have a lot of veterans and at the end of the game we had four seniors on the court."

On the play of Kelsey Grifiin...
"Obviously Kelsey didn't have a great offensive game but it just says how great of a player she is when she can do all of those other little things. She had five assists and she picked up four charges. If you just look at her number you might not think they were impressive, but that was a great performance by her."

Senior Forward Kelsey Griffin
On Baylor...

"Baylor is a young team and they are a great program. They are going to do amazing things with the young players they have. Defensive rebounding and the glass were going to be key in this game so we really tried to rebound hard. Baylor made some huge plays coming down the stretch but some of their jumpers didn't fall like ours did."

On Brittney Griner...
"She is a great player. She is awesome. People might say it is because she is so large. Well, to be that tall and to be that athletic and catch the ball and be able to do all of the things that she does--that package doesn't come along very often. I hope people can appreciate that she is more than just a tall body. She did a great job defending." Senior Guard Yvonne Turner

On the three-point shooting...
"Going into this game we weren't thinking about shooting all threes. We had open shots and Coach Yori told us we can take open shots and to just be smart with our shot selection. We shot well from the three-point line, but coming into the game that wasn't one of our keys to the game."
