NO. 2/2 OKLAHOMA (17-2, 6-0) 56, NO. 4/3 BAYLOR (17-2, 5-1) 51
FERRELL CENTER - WACO, TEXAS
JAN. 28, 2009 - ATTENDANCE: 8,220
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
"We shot 27 percent. For us to even be in the ballgame shooting 27 percent against the No. 2 team in the country is pretty remarkable. We won the battle of the boards, so I guess my prediction wasn't true. I thought whoever won the battle on the boards would probably come out on top. You can't shoot the ball like we did. You are not going to beat anybody when you shoot like that. When the defense makes you shoot like that you acknowledge it. I'll guarantee you that when you go back through the course of the game we just missed point-blank range shots, especially in the first half."
On Danielle Robinson:
"I thought Danielle Robinson was the difference in the game. You knew what you were going to get with Courtney (Paris) and Ashley (Paris) and I thought their point guard ran the show for them. She scored for them. She had turnovers but she made plays for them down the stretch in the second half."
On President George W. Bush attending tonight's game:
"When the leader of our country for eight years shows up at a woman's basketball game and cares enough about me and the program to acknowledge us in that manner that he did, you bet it is special. It is a night that none of us will forget. I was so appreciative to the fans that acknowledged him. He is a Texan... This was his first public outing since being out of office. The only thing that could have made it better was a win. I will never forget it because it speaks volumes for the amount of respect that he has for our program."
Sophomore Guard Melissa Jones
On shooting 27 percent on the night and still playing close with OU:
"It shows that we can play with them. We still have another shot at them and I feel like we can give them a good run for their money next time. We made some mistakes here, but we can fix them."
Junior Post Danielle Wilson
On guarding Courtney Paris:
"I guess it is maturity with me. I played Courtney (Paris) over the last three years and I have gotten better against her each year. You are not going to stop her but you can contain her. That is what I tried to do, just contain her and play the best defense that I could possibly play."
Oklahoma Head Coach Sherri Coale
"We feel very, very fortunate to be leaving the Ferrell Center with a win tonight. (I give a) lot of credit to a very talented Baylor team and a terrific game plan by Coach Mulkey and her staff. We just showed some poise and some resiliency down the stretch that I think is a reflection of a hungry bunch of kids; a bunch of kids that have some experience and a freshman with a little ice water in her veins. We just made the plays we needed to make."
On the win:
"Well it's huge until Saturday. It is amazing in this conference that that is the approach you have to take. Winning on the road separates you a little bit and I don't know if there will be many people that come into this gym and this environment and beat this team."
Oklahoma Forward Courtney Paris
On style of the game:
"I think the good thing about our team is we can adjust to different kinds of situations. But I don't think we played Oklahoma basketball tonight, so we are just glad we got the win."
Oklahoma Guard Whitney Hand
On making an important three pointer at the end of the game:
"Honestly it went by really fast and I am really kind of glad it did because I didn't have the time to think about the times I played terrible, which was the rest of the game. Honestly it was all Danielle (Robinson) with the pass and whoever set the screen, it was a great screen. I am really glad it went in."
Oklahoma Forward Ashley Paris
On the magnitude of the win:
"It is exciting. Baylor is really good obviously; they wouldn't be the number three team in the country if they weren't. Obviously they gave us trouble in the post; they are just a really talented team. We have never come in here and got an easy win, so any time you beat them whether it is by two or 15, we are super excited."
