Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey

On the scoring run when Griner sat on the bench due to foul trouble…
“It is a sign of growth. You saw what happened at Oklahoma. We took her out with three minutes to go in the first half and we were down by two and we ended up going down 12. It is a sign of kids listening, being more confident, not being timid with the ball, running the offense and that was a good sign.”

On the play of Ashley Field…
“I thought Ashley, a double-double, first in her career, we need that. We need that every night. We need consistent players. I need to be able to go on the floor at every practice and say I know what I am going to get from that kid and I don’t have that feeling right now. A lot of that has to do with injuries and a lot of that has to do with youth. If it is a different player every night, I don’t really care who brings it. We just need it.”

On the play of Lindsay Palmer…
“I thought Lindsay got us some extra looks and some extra touches. She didn’t try to do too much. She was just trying to do everything within the game itself. I thought Nae-Nae Hayden was a big spark for us. I thought our bench play was outstanding with the exception of the last two to three minutes of the game.”

On the offense hitting parameter shots…
“Anytime you can hit wide-open perimeter shots it just relaxes everybody. Griner can’t win games by herself. These kids just have to understand that when you are open you just have to take shots and you have to make them.”

Sophomore Guard Lindsay Palmer

On her first career start…
“I am just thankful that God has given me the opportunity to be a part of this team and a part of this program. I had a good time tonight. The rest of my teammates just turned it on tonight.”

Sophomore forward Ashley Field

On her performance…
“When I am at my best it is when I am hustling, getting rebounds and just basically being the garbage player doing all of the little things that I need to do on a consistent basis. I haven’t done that this year. I have been trying to do things that I’m not capable of doing yet. Tonight I just went back to basics and doing my job.”

On the importance of the win…
“It does a lot for all of our confidence. Coming into this game tonight we knew it was a must win. Being able to produce the game that we did tonight with everyone playing well, playing defense and everybody making their shots just helps going into the next game. With Oklahoma State this weekend, that is going to be a tough game. Winning tonight is just going to build our confidence and help us this weekend.”

Texas Tech Head Coach Kristy Curry

On fouls effecting team early in the game…
“It definitely did the first half and I felt that we never got in a rhythm because of fouls.”

On trying to limit Brittney Griner and the rest of the team…
“Brittney Griner has a chance to be a special player. She’s a very good freshman right now, and I’ve tried to emphasize with our team coming in that it’s not just Brittney Griner. They do so many things at other positions well. I thought they had great balance tonight.”

Sophomore Forward Jordan Barncastle

On the difficulty of containing Griner…
“Obviously it’s difficult. There’s not another player in this league with her size and wingspan, so it’s different. I think it’s something that you learn and scout and take into the next game. She’s a good player, but I think we gave her too many attempts at the free throw line.”

Freshman Guard Chynna Brown

On how hard it is to drive the lane on Griner…
“It’s tough and I couldn’t knock down the shots that I normally would knock down.”
