"We are through two phases of our season. non-conference, we didn't do too bad, and we wanted to win a Big 12 championship. Regardless of what happens in Colorado, we want to go and win, but regardless we know we are Big 12 champs. I am so happy that we had this kind of scene on the floor at home with our fans. They deserve this as much as these players because they have been by us, they have supported us, we have had four sellouts this year and they appreciate the product on the floor."
On what this conference championship means to this program:
"Championships are hard to come by. It is particularly hard to win them when you are predicted to win them. We were predicted to win it last year and we didn't, but we reached probably an unreasonable goal without Melissa Jones on the floor, we made it to a Final Four. There are a lot of people in our locker room that have never won a regular season championship and it means a great deal to all of us. As I told the fans, don't ever take these for granted."
On the playing status of Melissa Jones:
"That was a question she (Melissa Jones) asked her doctor and he said that he will not keep her off the floor. If she had any symptoms of a concussion, that they thought she had, then that doctor would, but she doesn't have any. She will be on the floor with the trainer tomorrow more so than with the team because depth perception is very important in basketball. While she may do fine defensively, the shooting may be a factor so she will be smart about what she is doing."
Senior Guard Melissa Jones
"It's great to be with such a great team. The support that this team and this program have had for me is incredible. Just starting out with the great news from my neuro opthamologist this morning, they are just so optimistic and it is just a blessing to have vision out of one eye and he is saying that I will be able to see out of both. You can't ask for better news then that. On top of that it is great to have people around that can help make a dream come true."
On being able to go back and play her last regular season game in her home state of Colorado:
"What better way to end the season? It is just great to have that supporting cast around you, not only with your team but with all the people back home. You can't ask for a better way to end it and it is just a blessing to be able to do that."
Sophomore Post Brittney Griner
"It was a lot of fun. We were glad to have Melissa (Jones) here and I am just really happy right now. Coach really didn't even have to say anything to us."
On what Melissa Jones being at the game meant to the team:
"Well coach didn't even really have to say anything to us. We were ready to come out tonight and get a win and to come out with our `5' shirts on. Some people wrote `5' on their wrist, I had a `5' and an `MJ' on my shoe. We just had to go out there and get a win big for her tonight."
Senior Post Whitney Zachariason
"Well I have to practice against Melissa Jones every day so you can imagine how difficult that is. She has taught me a few things and I tried to get some boards and just help out the team. We really wanted to win this for Melissa and I think we did a good job of that tonight."
On what having Melissa Jones present at the game tonight did for the energy of the team:
"That is all we needed was to have her back here. She brings so much excitement to this team. You heard the crowd when she walked in, it was unbelievable. It was just great to have her back."
Head Coach Robin Pingeton
"I have had a tone of respect for them before we even played them. I have watched Kim over the years, back in my Iowa State days. You always follow some of the best teams in the country and certainly Baylor is one of them. They are absolutely a fantastic team, but I thought that coming in."
On their performance against Baylor:
"We have to be realistic in regards where our programs are right now. We are certainly in the trenches. There are a lot of things that go into play in regards to where we are at as a team. I thought we played a little scattered and we want to be aggressive, but be under control and have some poise. We do not have that poise coming out of the gates. We took some rough shots. I just give all the credit to Baylor. They have some great players. They play very well as a team. They have got a great inside game, great outside game. They have a great coaching staff. Certainly down the road we would like to think that we can compete with teams like this, and we will. But right now, we are just focused on making our team better today."
