BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the last Baylor possession:
"You know Odyssey is going to walk in here and she's going to be a woman and she's going to blame herself. She's just a competitor. She doesn't need to do that and she doesn't need to beat herself up over it, but if I did it over again the ball would be in her hands. Got two, three timeouts, she knew that, and they have to foul you there because I think there was only five seconds difference between game clock and the shot clock so we are going to let them foul us."
On West Virginia's shooting:
"Guys, they shot 50 percent the entire game so now I've got to go back and look at film and go wow, is our defense that bad or did they just shoot the ball really that good?"
On crowd support:
"I thought the crowd was outstanding. I thought the setting was perfect to win a Big 12 Championship, but we just didn't get it done there at the end."
On moving forward after this game:
"We can still win the Big 12 Championship. We've got to regroup. We've got to go to Iowa State and we need to take the emotion from this game and move on. If we win at Iowa State, we get the number one seed.
Senior Guard Odyssey Sims
On the turnover in the final minute:
"I was trying to keep the ball in my hands. I thought they would foul. I turned it over. I gave the ball up too quick."
On moving on from this loss:
"Like Coach said, we've got to move on. We've got a quick turnaround Tuesday. We'll watch film in case we play them again in the Big 12 Tournament."
Freshman Forward Nina Davis
On Asya Bussie:
"It was a difficult matchup. She's a physical player. She's a good player. She protects the rim well. She plays hard. We were just trying to contain her the entire game."
WEST VIRGINIA POSTGAME QUOTES
Head Coach Mike Carey
"Great game naturally, two great teams. Both teams struggled to score at times because of the defense, and both teams were very aggressive. I thought Asya Bussie kept us in the game for the most part because we were struggling to score. Then she got into foul trouble, but we were still able to score because Caldwell picked it up. But that's something we've been doing all year. Somebody goes down, gets into foul trouble, somebody else picks up the slack. So, very proud of the team. It was a great game."
"We go small with them and become a little bit more where we can switch a lot more picks, and right there at the end we trapped with our five because Crystal Leary was in a t that time because she is really our forward but we were able to trap at that time. And then Christal Caldwell picked it up and we started scoring a little bit, hit a three, hit some shots and then Averee Fields. So we had other people contribute, but we struggled big time."
On the last sequence and Odyssey:
"Absolutely, we said if she sets a pick trap it. If she doesn't set a pick go. Send two at her and everybody leave the farthest person away. And hopefully we can get it out of the trap. But don't foul her. Naturally, we didn't want to foul her.
Center Asya Bussie
On winning on the road:
"This is a really big win for us. We just came here really focused and wanted to stay focused throughout the whole game, and we have goals. One of our goals was to beat Baylor and that's what we did."
On guarding Odyssey:
"She's a very good player, and we just had to make her work for her points. We changed up our defense from the last time we played them, and just defended her very differently from the first time."
