POSTGAME QUOTES - BAYLOR
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the game:
"The good thing is we won, and the other good thing is everyone got to play enough minutes to get up and down the floor. I think we played ten kids, and three of the five (who did not play) could have played if I wanted them to but there is no need doing it in an exhibition game. Shanay has back spasms and has been out of practice for about a week now. Whitney has something with her Achilles, so I expect them to all continue to get better. Maria had the knee surgery so she has some ways to go, and Destiny won't play until December. I thought we played in spurts; it's hard to play that many kids. We have got to get the right people on the floor together. I thought Brittney came ready to play. If you look at the stats, she and Brooklyn had double-figure rebounds. I know Brooklyn knows she has to finish more at the basket, that's just something where you get the rust off. She has been sitting for a year, so she just has to keep rebounding and those shots will fall. "
On offensive rebounding:
"Offensive boards are important to this team. I think we have an athletic team and we have the bigs inside. You just have to go to the offensive boards and she (Brooklyn Pope) and Brittney both had seven and five, and they did fine tonight."
Baylor Post Brittney Griner
On starting her second season with the Lady Bears:
"I knew I had to come out and try to grab the rebounds. It was one thing that coach stressed to me, but I guess I didn't have as many jitters as I did last time. I came out ready but I came out mellow, so I just played my game."
Baylor Post Brooklyn Pope
On playing again:
"It felt fine until I missed layups. It was okay. It was nice to see my mom back at my games."
On having nerves:
"I was extremely nervous. It is the first time I have played this much since high school so it has been a couple years."
