Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey

On what she wanted out of the game...

"It's the first game and it's a win, and wins are going to be hard to come by when you're as young as we are. At the same time, we did some good things. I thought we didn't shoot the ball particularly well against their zone. I think a lot of that has to do with fatigue. I think some of it had to do with confidence. I think shooters have to keep shooting, and I think we had two or three tonight that were hesitant and shot off balance, and rushed shots instead of stepping up there and making them."

On going to the post early...

"They started out in the zone and Mariah and Sune are great face-up shooters, and they got the ball at the "T" and they faced up and made good shots there. It was good to see."

On Odyssey's play...

"Odyssey Sims, she just never really tires out there. She is the same way right now in practice. She never tires, she is strong for her size and a lot is going to be asked of her this year and it's understandable why."

On the balanced scoring...

"It may be a different group each game. We know what we are going to get out of Odyssey Sims. But, there may be styles of play where there may be four other players who didn't score in double figures tonight that will the next night. I want them to remain confident."

Baylor PF Mariah Chandler

On the fast start...

"We had a really good practice yesterday, and I guess our legs felt really fresh and our guards were penetrating, and making everybody take them. So, we just stepped up and hit big shots."

On post play...

"I think we are doing the best we can. We can definitely improve, everybody can improve their game. But, we are definitely trying to rebound the ball anytime it's a missed shot, we are trying to focus on our jump shots, our layups, just trying to contribute to the team as much as possible."

Baylor G Odyssey Sims:

On the post scoring...

"I feel like they were very ready to play. They came out and hit shots. Mariah and Sune's favorite shot is the short corner, and anytime it's wide open, why not shoot it? It kept going in, and I was happy for them. I wanted them to keep shooting."

On her poise and lack of turnovers...

"I try to lead by example. I try my best to value the ball. We are very young, and I tell them every day in practice running down the court "make sure you take care of the ball, take care of the ball" and have a few turnovers as possible."

On the importance of a big game after Britney and the other seniors left...

"It was different, but I like the feel of the team. I felt like we came out and were ready to play from the jump."

Grambling State Assistant Coach Lou Hamilton:

On Baylor's Defense...

"Initially, we wanted to get some things going offensively, however, they played some really great defense on us.  They pressed us and caused a lot of turnovers. We had 20 turnovers in the first half"

On The Beginning of The Game...

"We got down by a bunch, 16 points like you said, so obviously we wanted to grow from that. When you get in the hole like that it's tough"

On the Height Matchup...

"They had several players that are 6' 3", 6' 4", 6' 5", obviously we didn't have much height in there"

On Odyssey Sims...

"Seeing Odyssey first hand, she's such a poised player. No matter what you throw at her, she's going to come out and give everything all she's got... (Odyssey was) almost perfect from the free throw line, really runs the team, we have tremendous respect for her and what she's able to do."
