Ferrell Center (Waco, Texas) - Att.: 7,020
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the point guard position:
"Well Ne-Ne Hayden is an improved basketball player from last year and that's what you hope happens from your freshman to your sophomore year. Now we are asking her to take on a position that truly she needs to be on the wing, but because of the departure of Kellie she has really taken on a roll that she embraces. I think you saw that in the second half when you saw Jordan Madden, Odyssey, Sims and Ne-Ne out there, that is a quick back court. When we get Odyssey in the flow and start getting her well, and you get Ne-Ne in shape, I would like to see those three do some of that. And then you saw a line-up that you can put out there and who can shoot the three. We didn't particularly shoot the ball well late, but the kids who were taking those shots were kids that can, shoot the three.
On the game:
I thought your two captains; Melissa Jones and Brittney Griner set the tone for this basketball team right from the beginning. We were able to jump on them and we were able to do more substitution. With three games in three days, it allows you to put kids on the floor to rest them a little. It is a quick turnaround, noon (on Saturday) is quick."
On Brittney's Improvement:
"Well I think Brittney has improved as a rebounder, and probably the thing that stood out tonight was we have been riding her pretty hard about being a better offensive rebounder. Most of her rebounds, I think she had ten rebounds tonight, six were on the offensive boards."
Guard Melissa Jones
On playing in a game:
"It is good to start off the season. We have all been chomping at the bit all summer long and we were all just looking forward to it."
Forward Brittney Griner
On rebounding being a focus for the game:
"It was kind of my mindset to crash the boards especially on the offensive end."
On seeing the Final Four banner being raised:
"When I saw it come down I just thought wow, we just need a national championship; one to go on the other side of it."
