WACO, Texas - Senior Rachel Allison recorded her 11th career double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds as she led the No. 19 Lady Bears (1-0 overall) to a 90-45 victory over Florida Atlantic (0-1 overall) Friday night. The win marked the fourth-straight season-opening victory for the Lady Bears.
"I thought we were very patient defensively," head coach Kim Mulkey said. "This game allowed me to rest players with such a quick turnaround against Stanford on Sunday."
Junior Morghan Medlock added a double-double of her own in her Baylor debut, registering 14 points and 16 boards. Junior Danielle Wilson chipped-in 12 points, while freshman Ashley Field added 11 and senior Jessica Morrow scored 10.
Baylor dominated the glass with a 70-33 advantage. The Lady Bears' 70 boards set a school record for most rebounds versus an NCAA opponent, breaking the old mark of 69 set on Nov. 28, 2000 against Bethune-Cookman.
The Lady Bears took a 45-21 lead into the break, as Allison already recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Baylor dominated the first half boards, out-rebounding the Owls 39-13 in the opening stanza.
Baylor held Florida Atlantic to just 27 percent shooting from the field (17-of-63), while the Lady Bears shot 43 percent (33-of-77) on the game.
The Owls were led by freshman Breana Turner's 14 points as she was the only Florida Atlantic player to record double-digits.
The Lady Bears will be back in action on Sunday for a showdown with No. 2 Stanford at 2 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
