#2 Baylor 95 – Rice 51 – Nov. 12, 2010
Ferrell Center (Waco, Texas) – Att.: 6,723

Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the team’s performance against Rice:
“They started with challenging Shanay (Washington) and Shanay took some shots right there early. Then gave Terran (Condrey) a shot at it and Terran nailed it. I do not know if I am surprised or not surprised. I am glad we got to see some different things tonight. I thought when he went to the 2-2-1 press it was very good that he threw that at us. He went to a box and 1 one time on Mellissa Jones, so we got to do some things tonight that you may see Tuesday and you are certainly going to see throughout the year. I thought for the most part that the two things that stood out to me in the game were your 3, 4 and 5 players all ended up with double-figure rebounds and the next, probably bigger than that, were your three point guards and their assist to turnover ratio. We did not have many turnovers and I understand that they were not pressuring and they were playing zone and doing some things, but sometimes it can get sloppy in a game and I just thought that those two areas were really big for us.”

On the efficiency of the offense:
“Because we did not turn the ball over it was a much more enjoyable game to watch. You can live with missed shots. I thought Brooklyn (Pope) and I thought Brittney (Griner) missed way too many gimmes early and really throughout the game, but you can live with missed shots as long as you get an opportunity. I thought it started with the guard play. They did not have many turnovers. You enjoy watching kids that take care of the basketball and we hit some three’s.”

On facing UCONN Tuesday:
“We will emphasize the importance of the game Tuesday, but we are not going to overemphasize it. I do not know that I have to tell them that they beat you in the Final Four. I do not have to tell them about the win streak. I do not have to tell them how many National Championships. I do not have to tell them about the fans. If you have any knowledge of women’s basketball, you are excited about the opportunity to go play them. It is good for women’s basketball that the number one and number two teams in the country are playing early. I am not sure that we are the number one and number two teams in the country. I do not know that. I do not know that it matters at this point, but because we are the chosen two, it makes sense that people will watch it a little bit. We win, they win, we are not going to overemphasize it.”

Guard Melissa Jones
On Condrey’s performance:
“It gave us a lot of energy just to play on the court and just to get excited for T. We are not surprised that she hit those three’s because, like she said, in practice she nails them all the time. Give her that opportunity and she will take advantage of it.”

On facing UConn Tuesday:
“I do not think you can really put into words how excited we are to play them. That is kind of why you play basketball, to play those big-name teams. We are just excited to get another shot at them.”

Guard Terran Condrey
On hitting four three pointers:
“I was surprised they did not come out on me. I am not surprised I made the shots because I hit them in practice.”
