Sophomore Danielle Wilson scored a season high 21 points to lead the Lady Bears to a 76-39 win over UT-Pan American on Thursday at the Ferrell Center in Waco. With the win, Baylor moved to 4-0 overall while the Broncos dropped to 0-1.
"Danielle was all over the floor," head coach Kim Mulkey said. "We tried to get her posted up down low and she did a good job of finishing tonight."
Baylor began the second half on a 14-0 run to push the lead to 53-29 and the Lady Bears never looked back. Baylor continued its hot shooting in the second half, connecting on 15-of-25 (60 percent) from the field.
Besides Wilson's season high, senior Angela Tisdale scored 16 points. Jessika Bradley added 10 points, while junior Jhasmin Player tied a season high with seven boards.
The Lady Bears shot 57 percent (30-of-53) from the floor and held the Broncos to just 36 percent (16-of-45).
"We played good defense at the beginning of the game, Mulkey said. "We allowed them to penetrate and kick out for the three, and we're going to have to figure that out. The defensive intensity at the beginning of the first and second halves was good, though."
Junior Jessica Morrow scored eight of Baylor's first 12 points to help the Lady Bears jump out to an early 12-4 lead. Baylor continued to stretch the lead to 25-4 after hitting 10 of its first 13 shot attempts and took a 39-25 lead into the break.
The Broncos were led by Tamara Vaughn's 14 points while Teshay Winfrey chipped-in seven.
The Lady Bears will be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 25 as they take on Cal at 2 p.m. in Waco. The game will be televised live by Fox Sports Net.
