POSTGAME QUOTES - BAYLOR
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On playing as a team in the open court:
"I thought that we did. I still think that we can do better. I thought that Jordan (Madden) and (Kimetria Hayden) kind of got out of the flow. They picked up two fouls in the first half and picked up their third one pretty early in the second half. They have got to learn to play hard and not foul because I think it took them out of their rhythm a little bit. When you have those athletes on the perimeter and passing lanes and deflecting passes and running the floor, it spreads to the post players. I thought Brooklyn Pope and Brittney Griner got a lot of quick runs down the floor and got rewarded for it."
On the effort of the bench players:
"I thought our bench in the first half, Odyssey (Sims) and Terran (Condrey), gave us a lift and I told them so at halftime. I thought that we looked for Brittney and Brittney got a lot of good looks during the course of the game. We just keep working on Baylor stuff."
On Brittney Griner's positioning in the post:
"Sometimes you want her to get deeper. We fuss at her a lot to quit getting pushed off the block. I thought she did get some more closer to the rim type baskets tonight. I do not know that she had maybe one or two just jump shots. I think part of that was how we got her the ball, when we got her the ball and how she made sure she was deeper. I think Brittney needs to do more of that, and not just settle for jumpers all the time."
Post Brooklyn Pope
On playing in the open court:
"I am an athletic player so it helps me to get more into the groove of basketball if I just run the floor. That is what Coach Mulkey tells me, and it is true because it will help me to get easy layups rather than trying to do a bunch of moves and all of the technique things. It is better for me, personally, to just run the floor."
Post Brittney Griner
On scoring a career high, 35 points:
"I feel like I am doing pretty well. The guards are finding me when I position myself. They are helping me get in the groove."
