POSTGAME QUOTES - BAYLOR
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the game...
"I think (Brittney Griner) has been dominant in every game that she has played. She just got more minutes today and it allowed you to see her almost get her first triple-double. I am kind of happy to see Kelli Griffin score the ball more. We saw a different defense today. We saw a 3-2 zone-defense and we had been seeing a 2-3 zone-defense. We got Griner some touches in some places that we hadn't been able to through the course of the year."
On the play of Brittney Griner...
"Brittney has been shooting the free-throws well. Brittney has a soft touch. I think everybody wants to talk about her dunks, but Brittney can shoot the basketball and she can shoot it with a great touch. It is good to win three games at home. It is football season, it is before Christmas and we still have good crowds come out here and that's good too."
On the depth and offensive prowess of this season's team...
"I think we do have more weapons than we have probably had in a long time. We have size, we have size on the perimeter and we have depth on the bench. There are only so many things that you can do defensively and at some point you are going to expose something for us and hopefully we will be able to exploit what they expose."
Junior Guard Kelli Griffin
On shooting the ball more...
"(Kim Mulkey) made a comment to me earlier this week that I need to take more shots. This tournament I really wanted to work on that and step up and hit a couple of shots here and there, especially to start the first half, to give my team the spark that we needed. I think I did a pretty good job but I don't really look to score because my position is more to run the team, make passes and get MJ (Melissa Jones) and Jordan (Madden) open for shots. As the Big 12 starts I think I need to be more aggressive and be more of a threat."
Freshman Post Brittney Griner
On playing 34 minutes and three games in three days...
"I felt pretty good out there today with the amount of minutes that I got to play. It is a grind (playing) three games in three days but you just have to go out and give it your all and leave it all out on the floor."
On her offensive production...
"I don't play to get triple-doubles or double-doubles. I just play to help the team and to win."
Lamar Head Coach Larry Tidwell
On the game...
"We played very, very hard and I was really proud of the way we played. We were playing a great team. You just don't have an answer for (Brittany) Griner and you try to give an answer for Griner and then you have to deal with Melissa Jones. I think Melissa Jones is one of the best players in the entire country and I mean that. I follow basketball very, very closely and she does all of the intangibles that takes you to the next level."
On shooting 29 three-point baskets...
"I was hoping to shoot 40. We took it in there and then she (Griner) would send it right back. We have to learn how to pull up and hit the jumper from the free throw line."
On his team's play...
"(We) played by the far the best game of the year for us because we played hard. We fought through some things. We never gave in. I think we got a little respect today and that was what we were after."
