No. 1/1 Baylor 91, Texas Southern 39
Ferrell Center – Waco, Texas
November 30, 2011 - Att. 7,041

  Head Coach Kim Mulkey

On what they can take from tonight’s game:
“It’s an opportunity to get back on the floor. As you saw, we didn’t look at the opponent, we didn’t look at the scoreboard. We worked on full-court presses, one-two-one-one, one-two-two-one. Just an opportunity to come home after a big victory on the road and just play. Everybody should feel good about themselves. Everybody got to play. You just don’t play the scoreboard, you just play the game.”

On tonight’s overall play:
“I didn’t think it was sloppy. I thought Odyssey (Sims) came to play. It’s good when your point guard comes to play and you hope that it spreads to the rest of the team. I thought a couple of them got off to slow starts, but I wouldn’t say it was just sloppy. I think it was a mid-week game and there’s a lot going on. We’re just glad that those who came to the game were here, and we played hard.”

On scoring more points off of turnovers than Texas Southern did the whole game:
“It tells me what we’ve tried to do, that is just pressure the ball. After watching film against Tennessee, our perimeter players really got in passing lanes and didn’t allow a lot of ball reversal. What our post players didn’t do very well was they allowed post players to pass the ball when they couldn’t reverse it to the wings. So I challenged the post players that if we’re going to work that hard on the perimeter, you’ve got to do your job and deny the ball too.”

 Forward Brooklyn Pope

On the game plan for tonight:
“We just try to do what she asks us to do without her having to ask us to do it. It’s kind of like a pop quiz, preparing us for the test when we play someone a little bit tougher.”

Guard Odyssey Sims

On how much the offense can benefit from the defensive play:
“It gives us opportunity to run. Like Coach has been saying, we’re still not running enough as we should. We’ve got a lot of athletes on the team that can run. We’re very athletic and Coach wants more transition buckets in an open floor. That’s something that we are working on.”
