#2/3 Baylor 65 – #6/6 Tennessee 54 – Dec. 14, 2010
Ferrell Center (Waco, Texas) – Att.: 10,569

Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On scoring 11-straight points to end the first half:
“I just thought that both teams played extremely hard. I thought fatigue set in at the end of the second half. At the end of the first half we just got some open breaks, got a few turnovers, we were just able to extend it at the end of the half on some things that I don’t know if we necessarily did or if Tennessee just turned it over.”

On the crowd:
“That was a great crowd out there. They were here to support the Lady Bears, without question. But they were here in appreciation of Pat Summit because she means so much to all of us that love women’s basketball. I was proud that our crowd showed that kind of respect to her program.”

On winning the game:
“I thought there were three things that we needed to do to win the game. One, and if you look at the stat sheet we didn’t do a very good job if it, you’ve got to keep them off the offensive boards and we didn’t do a very good job of that. And the second thing is I thought you needed to limit the number of transition baskets Meighgan Simmons and (Shekinna) Stricklen want to get. I don’t know of many transition baskets either of them got. Thirdly, you wanted them to beat you in a half-court, and when they did you make sure you knew where (Angie) Bjorklund was coming off screens and where Meighan Simmons was, and I thought that we did that. If I had to say things that we must improve on, I thought we should have extended the lead in the second half and we didn’t. I thought with five minutes left in the game we got up by 14 or 15 points, and we turned the ball over, or then we would foul them and stop the clock and they would shoot free throws. That comes with youth. That comes with just keep playing, keep learning and showing film.”

Forward Brooklyn Pope
On her strong performance:
“We practice it every day, so if you don’t do it then it won’t be exciting when you get back to practice. It was fine. That’s what we have to do.”

Post Brittney Griner
On the largest crowd ever at the Ferrell Center:
“We appreciate it. It’s the holidays and we had a lot of fans that were students and they could have all gone home, but they stayed home and supported us. The men’s basketball team and the football team were right there yelling for us. It’s a good feeling to have that much support in our community and school. We really appreciate everybody that came out.”

Tennessee Head Coach Pat Summitt
Opening statement:
“Obviously it was a disappointing game for us and you have got to give a lot of credit to Baylor. Odyssey (Sims) obviously did a great job, and (Brittney) Griner. They were just too tough for us. We did not match their intensity. We did not make shots. When you do not make shots it can be a long, frustrating game and it was for us. I think we have got good shooters. Why we did not knock down the shots. It happens at times and it is what happened. Baylor is a really solid, great team; well coached. It was just tough for us. When we do not make shots it is not pretty.”

On Baylor’s 11-0 run to end the first half:
“That was huge. We just did not answer. It was disappointing, but you go on the road and you learn a lot. We will go home and one thing we are going to do is we are going to be shooting the ball quite frequently and hold people accountable in that aspect."

On Baylor’s defense:
“You have got to give Baylor a lot of credit because they really brought a lot of pressure. They did a great job contesting shots and they really had a toughness about them, and I do not think we matched their intensity the way we needed to.”

On Baylor’s environment:
“It was a great environment. Their fans were obviously very into it and I liked that. I love to go on the road when you have got a packed house and see how our team responds. It was good for us.”

Guard Angie Bjorklund
On Baylor’s offensive play:
“I think they just continued to push the ball. We did not stop them in transition. Also, we have to answer their runs and we did not do that. We have got to make stops and if we are not scoring, we have to make sure we get back and make shots. I think that really hurt us in the first half.”

On learning from their mistakes:
“I think we learned that we have a long way to go. It is a long season and we just have to stay positive, watch film and get back in the gym and learn from our mistakes and continue to get better every single day. I think this was a good test for us and we have to get back in the gym and work.”

Guard Meighan Simmons
On missing the first nine shots:
“It is really frustrating. We just have to go out there and be in attack mode 24/7 from the get go. We have got to play from beginning to end and I just think that with us missing our first nine shots, everybody was trying to get their feel. I think later on in the game we kind of got our shots in, but we still had to hit open shots.”

Center Kelley Cain
On the status of her injury suffered during the Texas game:
“I just went out there and played for my team. I knew my team needed me, so I had to put myself aside and do it for something that is bigger than myself, and that is the team.”
