Ferrell Center (Waco, Texas) - Att.: 6,282
POSTGAME QUOTES - BAYLOR
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the game...
"(Oral Roberts) is the number one scoring team in the country and they have the number one scorer in the country. Their style of play makes you come down and get caught up in it. When we held them to 28 points in the first half I know it sure spoke volumes to me as a coach that these kids are listening to scouting reports and accepted the challenge. That is a hard matchup for us. When they shoot as many 3-pointers as they shoot, you are going to have a lot of scoring. I thought the first half was as exciting of a half as we have played this year."
On the defensive effort...
"I just thought we did some stuff defensively early in the game that was exciting and you did it with a bunch of players. You did that with a rotation of players in which you had kids coming in and out. That was exciting for us too."
On Brittney Griner resting for less than a minute midway through the second half...
"I wanted to give her more rest but I thought (Oral Roberts) was cutting into the lead. They score a lot of points quickly and we had some freshmen on the floor that were allowing their kids to drive and score. I just thought I wasn't that confident yet and I didn't want them to cut into the lead, so I put her back out there."
Junior Guard Melissa Jones
On the game...
"It was a lot of fun. We have kind of struggled on getting excited and bringing that enthusiasm. Tonight we talked about how much we wanted to play in front of our fans and use that to our advantage to help us when we play. I think tonight, especially in the first half, that we were able to do that. Hopefully that will carry over to the next couple of games that we have this weekend."
On this weekend...
"These two games are going to be very crucial and games that we need to start looking at film and breaking things down and work on a lot of stuff that Baylor needs to work on. They are going to be tough games."
Freshman Post Brittney Griner
On the game...
"I had a real good time tonight blocking shots. (Oral Roberts) didn't get the message and they kept coming (into the paint) and I just kept making blocks."
Oral Roberts Head Coach Jerry Finkbeiner
"We don't play too many Baylors in the Summitt League, definitely no Brittney Griners. I talked to coach Brock before the game and they scouted us. They were ready for us. We just didn't have too many open looks. We didn't shoot the ball very well at all and had that many turnovers. I was pleased we cut it to nine, cut it to 11 twice, but just couldn't gain ground. Obviously the Baylor girls understood the point differential too and they played better in those spurts. We are going to keep getting better. It was good experience for us tonight."
On how Baylor compares against the other two Big 12 school's ORU has played...
"We probably played our worst game of the three tonight, but I think it had to do with Baylor. It is hard for me to judge. I think Kansas is the most athletic group of the three. I think Baylor is the best team of the three right now."
Freshman Guard Kevi Luper
On playing good competition...
"I enjoy it so much because in high school we were always supposed to win and being the underdog, it is nice. Because you always have that chance to upset and I love the experience and everything. I just learn so much from it."
