No. 1/1 Baylor 90, McNeese State 50
Ferrell Center – Waco, Texas
December 21, 2011 - Att. 7,516

  Head Coach Kim Mulkey

On the balanced offensive effort in tonight’s game:
“When you have six players, almost seven in double figures, you are going to beat a lot of teams. I thought Brittney (Griner) was very unselfish. There were many times when she caught it early in our offense and could have been aggressive to the rim, but she chose to pass it out. I thought Nene (Kimetria Hayden) had one of her better games. She had no turnovers, took great shots, dished to teammates. Sune, double double, I am sure the kid could have had 20 rebounds if she just would have hung on to some of those that they knocked away. You want to see them all end on a good note for the holidays and I think they are all pretty happy in there and we are all ready to take a break.”

On Sune Agbuke:
“All Sune needs is minutes. She is caught in a numbers thing right here, but what better player to learn from then Griner every day. Sune is a big-time player. It may not surface right now at a young age, but I am just telling you, the kid can flat out play. She just got in a rhythm tonight and that is what minutes will do for you. She just got comfortable out there.”

On Kimetria Hayden’s performance tonight:
“She has to get us rebounds. She has to get us five to eight rebounds if she is going to play 20-plus minutes. Whether it is offensive or defensive, she has got to help us rebound. She had five tonight in 23 minutes and she has got to do that for us.”

Post Sune Agbuke

On playing more minutes tonight than in previous games:
“I appreciate the opportunity that she (Kim Mulkey) gives, just to go out there and try my best. It does a lot for me.”

Guard Kimetria Hayden

On splitting time with Odyssey Sims at the point:
“We just switch it up sometimes because they always think that Odyssey (Sims) is the only person who can dribble or bring the ball up. So I will dribble up and throw them off a little bit or I will find the open person. If Odyssey is heating up on threes, just try to find a way to give her the ball or anything like that.”

On being able to find points early in the game:
“We started off slow and we needed a buildup. It was open because they were playing the passing lanes, so the driving range was open so I just took it.”
