Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On utilizing the press:
"I thought the first game back - we had not practiced. What better way to get in condition and to get a good sweat going and we pressed from start to finish. Don't look at the scoreboard, just go and press. We did some full court 1-2-1-1, some 2-2-1; more or less just get something out of this game."
On preparing for Big 12 play:
"To do exactly what we did; get a good conditioning two hours in, play as many players as you could (and) rest players. I even thought that I might rest a couple more with Odyssey (Sims) and then decided against it because we now have seven days to get ready for Iowa State. Now we will not use all of those seven days to focus on them; we will focus three or four days on ourselves and then we will prepare for Iowa State."
On where the team is going into Big 12 play:
"We are able to gauge how talented we are and how good we are and how good we have got to be to win a championship. We have played the teams across the country, the Connecticuts, the Tennessees, the Michigan States, the Notre Dames who are getting the attention as well. We now have played those teams and we know that we can play with those guys now. Now we have got to flush that. We have got to go to the second-most important part of our season and that is conference."
Baylor Guard Melissa Jones
On the importance of the last game before Big 12 play:
"I think, like Coach (Mulkey) said, coming off this break and getting a lot of conditioning in. I think it really helps getting up and down the floor using that press. I think this was a good game to do that.
Baylor Post Brittney Griner
On having Destiny Williams on the court:
"I am glad to see Destiny out there. I have been waiting to get her out on the court for a while. She is a great rebounder and she has got a great shot that you have not gotten to see that much. I am just happy to have her out there with me."
UT-Pan American Head Coach Denny Downing
"When you look at these stats and you see that they got more rebounds that we got points. They got 56 rebounds and we got 55 points; the size is definitely an issue. I think when you look at the foul situation and the number of times they shot free throws. I think a lot of that is just size. When we play these Big 12 teams, they are obviously deeper than the Great West Conference that we are in, especially with their bigs."
On Britney Griner's performance:
"From one year to the next, her confidence and her aggressiveness (are unbelievable). I do not know what they are doing but they are doing a tremendous job with her. Her skill level and her feel for the game from what I saw last year are just leaps and bounds and you do not see improvement like what you have with Britney. I do not know anybody who has an answer for her."
