IRVING, Texas - Brittney Griner (Baylor), Taelor Karr (Kansas State) and Yvonne Turner (Nebraska) were named Phillips 66 Big 12 Players of the Week by a media voting panel for games from Jan. 11-17. Karr (freshman) and Turner (player) were honored for the first time this season while Griner (freshman) earned her fifth mention.

Brittney Griner, Baylor, P, 6-8, Houston, Texas
Brittney Griner averaged 15.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 8.5 blocks while playing 39 minutes a game in Baylor's win over No. 13 Oklahoma and loss to No. 11 Nebraska. She shot 50 percent (11-of-22) from the floor and 62 percent (8-of-13) from the free throw line. The 6-8 post raised her season blocks total to 105 and moved up to fifth place on the Big 12's single-season blocks list, just 15 shy of breaking the single season record. Griner led the Lady Bears in scoring and rebounding against the Sooners with 12 points and nine rebounds while tying her own Big 12 record for blocks in a game with 11. Against Nebraska, she was again the squad's top scorer and rebounder with 18 points and nine boards along with six blocks.

Taelor Karr, Kansas State, G, 5-8, Paola, Kan.
Taelor Karr averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 34.5 minutes to help Kansas State to a 1-1 week on the road with a win at Missouri and loss at No. 15 Oklahoma State. She shot 56 percent (10-of-18) from the field, including 64 percent (7-of-11) from the three-point line. At Missouri, the 5-8 guard tallied 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting and also registered five rebounds and three steals in 37 minutes of action. Karr notched 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the three-point line at Oklahoma State. She also carded four boards, an assist and a steal. During the last seven games, Karr is 21-of-35 (.600) from the three-point line and ranks third in the league in three-point field goal percentage (.462).

 

 

Phillips 66 Big 12 Co-Players of the Week
Yvonne Turner, Nebraska, G, 5-8, Sr., Omaha, Neb.
Yvonne Turner led Nebraska to a pair of Big 12 wins over Top 25 opponents last week with averages of 21.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 5.5 three-pointers per game. Her production in the two games more than doubled her season averages entering the week of 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.1 three-pointers. In Nebraska's win at No. 9 Baylor, Turner hit a career-high six three-pointers while pouring in a game and season-high 22 points. She connected on 6-of-14 shots from long range, helping NU to a school record-tying 12 threes. The senior guard added six rebounds, two assists and a season-high four steals, moving into the top 10 on NU's career steals list.Turner connected on 5-of-8 threes and finished with 21 points in the win over No. 19 Texas earlier in the week. She added six rebounds, two assists and three steals.
