IRVING, Texas - Three members of the Lady Bear basketball team, Lindsay Palmer, Ashley Field and Makenzie Robertson, earned Academic All-Big 12 first-team honors, league officials announced on Tuesday.
Palmer, a guard from Tulsa, Okla., was one of six Big 12 players to earn three-time Academic All-Big 12 recognition. Palmer graduated in May 2011 ceremonies and is pursuing a graduate degree in public health/community health education. She was one of just two Big 12 players to earn a 4.0 GPA.
Field, a December 2011 graduate with a degree in general studies, was recognized for the second time in her career. Field, a 6-2 post from Burnet, Texas, joins five other players as two-time honorees.
Robertson, a sophomore guard, earned her first Academic All-Big 12 recognition. The native of McGregor, Texas, is a pre-business major.
The Academic All-Big 12 Women's Basketball Team includes 27 first team honorees and 13 second team members. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
