No. 1/1 Baylor Seeks Fifth Big 12 Postseason Title... The top-ranked Baylor Lady Bears, NCAA Division I's top-ranked team with a 29-1 overall record and an 18-0 mark in league play, set their sights on a fifth Big 12 Tournament crown since 2005. Baylor claimed its fourth outright Big 12 regular season championship and third straight crown, as BU's first title came in 2005 with a 14-2 league record, followed by first-place finishes of 15-1 in 2011 and 18-0 in both 2012 and 2013. Baylor won the postseason championship and the Big 12's automatic NCAA Tournament bid in 2005, `09, `11 and `12.
2012-13 National Player of the Year favorite and Big 12 Player of the Year Brittney Griner, a 6-8 senior post, leads BU in scoring and rebounding with a league-leading 23.3 points and 8.9 boards per game. Griner currently has 3,123 career points, 1,232 career rebounds, and NCAA records of 721 blocks and 14 dunks to her credit. Griner recently became the Big 12's all-time scoring leader and the NCAA career block record holder (721), men or women. She already owns the NCAA record for career dunks (14), and ranks No. 2 on the NCAA's career scoring list.
Junior point guard and All-American candidate Odyssey Sims, who averages 12.3 points an outing, also dishes out 5.7 assists per game. Sims shoots .459 from the field, including .308 from 3-point range. Sims ranks No. 2 nationally in assist/turnover ratio (2.75).
Baylor in the Big 12 Championship... In Big 12 Championship contests, Baylor is 5-3 in first round games, 8-5 in quarterfinal contests, 6-2 in semifinal games and 4-2 in the finals.
