Odyssey Sims Named 2014 WBCA All-American

April 5, 2014

NASHVILLE - For the third straight year, Baylor guard Odyssey Sims has been named to the 10-member Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-America team. The announcement was made today in a ceremony held at Bridgestone Arena during the 2014 NCAA Women's Final Four Super Saturday festivities.

Players were selected from 52 finalists by the selection committee at an in-person meeting held during the 2014 WBCA National Convention.

"I think it gets sweeter just every year. I mean you don't really know, you just play hard, you don't think about awards when you're out there on the court. For me, being my third time, I think this one is bittersweet, being my senior year, I'm just happy just to be here, be a part of the organization every year, and really enjoy myself," said Sims. ""Most importantly, I'm representing my university. Anytime I can do that and I wear Baylor, my Baylor jersey on my chest one more time, it means a lot to me."

Sims is a WBCA All-American for the third consecutive season. She was also named USBWA All-American for the third time and to the AP All-American first team for the second consecutive year. Sims was named the Frances Pomeroy Naismith winner, collected Big 12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. A four-year starter, Sims finished her Baylor with a 140-10 record which included a national championship. She averaged 28.5 points a game as a senior, set a Big 12 Conference single season scoring record with 1,054 points and also broke the league's single season scoring average record. She became just the second Division I women's player to score over 1,000 points in a season.

Joining Sims on the 2014 WBCA All-America team are UConn's Stefanie Dolson, Bria Hartley and Breanna Stewart, Jewell Loyd and Kayla McBride of Notre Dame, Nebraska's Jordan Hooper, Tiffany Mitchell of South Carolina, Chiney Ogwumike of Stanford and Maryland's Alyssa Thomas.

"The 10 student-athletes who have been selected to the 2014 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team are extremely deserving of this award," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "These young women have led their teams to be contenders for conference championships and berths in the NCAA Tournament. Each of these young women have shown that they are proven leaders and have taken their program to the next level."
