WACO, Texas - Thousands of Waco and McLennan County citizens lined Waco's Austin Avenue on Monday to pay tribute to the Baylor Lady Bears, 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball National Champions.
Each player rode in a Corvette convertible along the city street and threw candy to fans. In addition, coaches and support staff were honored along the parade. The parade concluded at Heritage Square where each individual was escorted from their car and presented yellow rose by a tuxedo clad Larry Groth, Waco's City Manager.
A short program, led by Mr. Groth, followed the parade. Jim Bush, mayor of the city of Waco, read a proclamation that proclaimed April 16, 2012 as "Baylor University Lady Bears 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball National Championship Day". Resolutions were also presented to Coach Mulkey from Mayor Bush on behalf of the City, as well as Doc Anderson and Brian Birdwell.
Baylor President Judge Ken Starr, Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey and all of the players addressed the crowd.
