Duo Named to USA U18 National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a three-day tryout at the United States Olympic Training Center, Baylor women’s basketball recruits Queen Egbo and NaLyssa Smith were named to the 12-member 2018 USA Basketball Women’s U18 National Team.

Team members will return to Colorado Springs for training camp on July 20, before the team departs for the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship from August 1-7 at a location yet to be announced. To be eligible for the team, players must be U.S. citizens who are 18 years old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 2000).

Egbo, who secured two All-America awards after averaging 17.3 points, 12.4 rebounds, 5.0 blocks and 3.9 steals per game at Travis High School this season, is ranked eighth overall and third at her position by ESPN Hoopgurlz. The center was included on the Naismith Trophy Girls’ Basketball Watch List.

Smith, who has earned four All-America selections after averaging 23.4 points, 13.7 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per contest at East Central High School this year, is ranked 18th overall in her class and second at her position by ESPN Hoopgurlz. The forward was one of 10 semifinalists for Naismith Trophy Girls’ High School Player of the Year.

USA women’s teams have compiled a 53-2 overall record in U18/Junior qualifiers and have won gold in 1988, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
