Baylor men's basketball is coming off a 27-8 season and its fourth NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance since 2010. The Bears were ranked No. 1 nationally for the first time in program history, and they defeated four top-10 ranked opponents on the way to a school-record fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.

The Lady Bears went 33-4 last season on their way to a seventh straight Big 12 regular season title. They earned a No. 1 seed to secure a 14th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and advanced to the Elite Eight for a fourth straight season. Two players from Baylor's 2016-17 team made WNBA rosters.

Baylor women's basketball head coach Kim Mulkey returns for her 18th season with the program, and men's basketball head coach Scott Drew enters his 15th season at BU. The Lady Bears return six letterwinners from last year's Elite Eight squad, and men's basketball returns seven letterwinners from its Sweet 16 team.
