Women's Hoops to Host Preseason WNIT Game

2011 Preseason WNIT Bracket 

WACO, Texas - Baylor, along with 15 other teams, will be participating in the 2011 Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) and the Lady Bears will host Howard in first-round action, Triple Crown Sports announced on Tuesday. All first- round games will be played on Friday, Nov. 11.

Joining Baylor and Howard in the tournament will be Akron, Chattanooga, Detroit, Drexel, ETSU, Hartford, Indiana State, Long Island, Manhattan, McNeese State, Notre Dame, Tennessee Tech, UAB and UCLA.

The Preseason WNIT features a three-game guarantee format. The event opens Nov. 11 with first-round games. Second-round games will be played Nov. 13-14 and sites will be announced following the first round results; semifinals will be Nov. 16-17; and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 20. Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 18-19. All games are hosted by participating schools.

Purdue defeated DePaul, 67-58, in last year's Preseason WNIT.

Baylor has twice hosted Preseason WNIT Games. In 1998 the Lady Bears defeated UL-Monroe (84-65) before losing in second-round action to 22nd-ranked Florida, 70-58. In 2006 BU hosted four games including the championship contest. Baylor downed North Texas (84-47), Hofstra (81-71) and No. 22 BYU (84-58) before the 16th-ranked Lady Bears lost in the championship game to No. 12 Purdue, 69-55.
