WACO, Texas - The U.S. Women's William Jones Cup Team, with Baylor student-athletes Rachel Allison and Jhasmin Player on the roster, will tipoff tournament play against Chinese Taipei (B) on Wednesday, July 11 at the Taipei Physical Education College Gymnasium in Taipei, Taiwan.

The seven-team round-robin tournament will feature two teams representing Chinese Taipei along with squads from Australia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and the U.S. The tournament winner will be determined by overall record in pool play. The seven-day tournament will run from July 11-17.

Led by Texas A&M associate head coach Vic Schaefer, in addition to Allison and Player, the 12-player roster includes Texas A&M's La Toya Micheaux, Iowa State's Heather Ezell, Arizona State's Briann January, George Washington's Sarah-Jo Lawrence, Colorado's Jackie McFarland, Colorado State's Angie (Gorton) Nelp, Southern Mississippi's Kendra Reed, Oklahoma's Leah Rush, North Carolina A&T's Brittanie Taylor-James and Kentucky's Katie Vieth.

Seven of the U.S. Jones Cup players participated in this year's NCAA Tournament, while four where named All-Big 12 Conference performers. Schaefer will be assisted on the sidelines by Oklahoma City University head coach Rob Edmisson and Texas A&M senior forward Katy Pounds. Pounds is the youngest person to ever serve as an assistant coach in U.S. Jones Cup Team history.

The U.S. last fielded a Jones Cup Team in 2000 and won gold. Team USA will be searching for its 10th all-time gold medal at the tournament having won nine gold medals, four silver medals and four bronze medals since 1977.

This is the first year that the Women's Jones Cup team will be sponsored by Athletes in Action which is an associate member of USA Basketball. The tour to Taiwan is just one of many for Athletes in Action. Between May and August, hundreds of college student-athletes and AIA staff travel the world to play competitive games, run clinics and attend sports camps. Each opportunity is used to share the matchless love of Jesus Christ as well as to teach the athletes how to be lifetime ministers of the gospel.
